Acoustics and Vibration Research Centre,
Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, University of Auckland

I am a Senior Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Auckland. I hold a PhD specializing in Acoustic Metamaterials, a Bachelor of Engineering in Materials and Processing Engineering, and a Bachelor of Music. As the Principal Investigator for two major research projects funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment, I am dedicated to applying research for passive, sustainable, and energy-efficient noise control solutions.

My work includes impact insulation of floors using granular metamaterials and sound insulation of walls with acoustic and elastic metamaterials. Additionally, I focus on utilizing metamaterials, metasurfaces, and metasystems to reduce duct and window noise. These projects aim to enhance acoustic environments while improving quality of life by minimizing unwanted noise and ensuring proper ventilation.

Our research in acoustic and elastic metamaterials at the Acoustics and Vibration Research Centre

Metastructures

Metastructures may reflect, absorb or guide waves through there macrostructure

Phononic Crystals

Phononic crystals utilize variations in density to scatter bending waves in plates.

Phase Gradient materials

A phase gradient material acts like an acoustic diode allowing acoustic energy in one direction.

Metasurface

Metasurfaces use Quarter-wavelength and Helmholtz resonance to absorb sound waves.
